About University of California Davis

The university was established in 1905 with the help of Governor George Pardee, who signed the act that made it possible, being opened under the name of `University Farm`.

In January 1909, the university opened its doors to 40 degree male students from UC Berkeley, female students being accepted only after 1913.

In 1959 the 3000-acre campus became part of the University of California system, and it was then known as the University of California, Davis or UC Davis, as we know today.

UC Davis is organized in 10 colleges and schools, including UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, UC Davis College of Engineering, UC Davis Graduate School of Management and UC Davis School of Medicine, offering more than 100 undergraduate majors and over 80 graduate programs.

The University of California, Davis was highly ranked by the U.S. News and World Report, The Washington Monthly, being among the Top 500 World Universities, according to the Institute of Higher Education in Shanghai, China.

The name of the teams that are representing UC Davis in collegiate competitions is UC Davis Aggies, or simply Ags, representing the school’s agricultural heritage, competing in NCAA Division I, and having the mustang as the official mascot.

The UC Davis Aggies finished first 6 times in 2003 in NCAA Division II and won 4 years in a row the NACDA Directors' Cup (1999 - 2003).
