The university was established in 1905 with the help of Governor George Pardee, who signed the act that made it possible, being opened under the name of "University Farm".
In January 1909, the university opened its doors to 40 degree male students from UC Berkeley, female students being accepted only after 1913.
In 1959 the 3000-acre campus became part of the University of California system, and it was then known as the University of California, Davis or UC Davis, as we know today.

The UC Davis Aggies finished first 6 times in 2003 in NCAA Division II and won 4 years in a row the NACDA Directors' Cup (1999 - 2003).
